Two senior citizens met and fell deeply in love in a nursing home and a few months later they were at the courthouse getting married. This is not an ordinary story because we are talking about two seniors who are both over 100-years-old.
John and Phyllis are both living in Kingston Residence, a senior care home in Sylvania, Ohio. In spite of their apartment being a floor apart, they found each other and formed an amazing connection.
“To tell you the truth, we fell in love with each other,” Phyllis, turning 103 this summer, told WNWO. “I know you think that may be a little bit far-fetched for somebody our age, but we fell in love with each other.”
“Well, we were just compatible in a whole lot of ways, found ourselves enjoying each other’s company,” said John, a 100-year-old WWII veteran. They were both widows — each being married twice before.
“Congratulations to the newlyweds! John and Phyllis met while living at Kingston. At the young ages of 103 and 100 years…”
The couple not only love to play Bingo but also spend quality time together. When asked what other activity they like doing together, John replied: “Well, I probably shouldn’t talk about that.”
Phyllis, however, was more candid:
“He’s not completely dead sexually and neither am I!” Phyllis told KHOU 11. But she had her morals to consider: “I just don’t believe in hopping in bed as a Christian unless you’re married.”
So John decided to make things official and headed to the courthouse for a marriage certificate. Little did they know they’d leave the courthouse as husband and wife.
“It wasn’t the plan, but we got here and they said we could marry you here,” John told WNWO.
He couldn’t wait for married life to begin, clearly: “I said ‘good, let’s get it over with.’”
This story proves that you’re never too old to find a new love and a new beginning.
The couple still understand the importance of having your own space and for that reason they each decided to keep their apartment. No reason to rush thing!
We wish John and Phyllis a jolly and long marriage. Share their amazing story!
