A beautiful 4-year-old model with Down syndrome is now a viral sensation after she became the new star of toy catalogue American Girl.
Ivy Kimble from Illinois featured in the magazine’s October edition posing in a red dress and completely owned the spotlight.
The magazine takes pride in putting all measures to ensure that the dolls reflect girls from all walks of life, like those with hearing aids, crutches, wheelchairs, guide dogs and.insulin equipment.
Aside from their doll’s, the company exercises inclusion and diversity with their models as well. However, they hadn’t had one with Down’s syndrome before, till little Ivy featured in the October issue holding an American Girl doll who also had Down’s syndrome.
The youngster looking every bit the perfect model as she adorned a red sparkly dress and a dazzling smile to match!
Ivy’s mom, Kirsten Kimble, was so proud of her little girl. Speaking to WLS , she described the moment Ivy got the incredible opportunity as a ‘a mother’s dream.’
“I have four girls and to have one of them in the [American Girl] catalogue is every mother’s dream,” she told ABC7.
“But especially having a child with Down syndrome, there’s not a lot of print or media with a lot of kids with Down syndrome. So, it’s a big deal for her. I mean, she’s a cute little girl and she has Down syndrome and she’s in the catalogue. We’re proud.” She added.
Kimble also revealed that she is happy her little girl was included in the new American Girl catalog but she hopes in the future such inclusions will become natural for brands.
“For us, we want to keep seeing kids of all abilities out there in print. And I love that these companies are trying to make the conscious effort to continue to put them in print.
“My hope is that…it stops being a conscious effort and it just becomes natural. They’re just seen everywhere.” She said.
We couldn’t agree more, Kirsten! And little Ivy is a star and absolutely beautiful just as she is.
