A young schoolboy in the Ukraine has been left fighting for his life after bullies doused him in petrol and set him on fire. Now, 8-year-old Kyrylo Yatsun needs all our prayers.
Kyrylo Yatsun suffered horrific burns to 35 per cent of his body following the shocking incident which occurred in Dnipro, Ukraine’s fourth-largest city.
According to the DailyMail, the boy is said to have been playing in the courtyard near his apartment block when he was attacked by local bullies several years older than him.
The bullies then poured petrol on Kyrylo’s T-shirt and used a lighter to set it on fire. The terrified boy fell down screaming while his tormenters watched and laughed.
They then fled the scene when passersby rushed to help Kyrylo and managed to rip off the burning T-shirt.
Kyrylo was rushed to Dnipro Regional Children’s Hospital where he was admitted to intensive care in critical condition.
Doctors performed multiple surgeries to give him a fighting chance of survival, removing damaged skin from his head, arms, torso and hips.
For the last ten days, Kyrylo has been fighting for his life with dedicated doctors by his side, but he is still in danger.
Dr. Artem Posunko, from Dnipro Regional Children’s Hospital, said, “The boy was hospitalized in a grave condition with severe burns to 35 percent of his body. We do everything possible to keep him alive. He is conscious and can speak but his injuries are very serious and his condition is still life-threatening.”
Kyrylo’s mother, Eugenia Yatsun, who hasn’t left her child’s bedside said, “I was cooking lunch at home when some children rushed in and said that Kyrylo was injured. I ran outside and saw my son lying on the ground. The skin on his belly and legs was badly burned.”
“He told me that they did it to him on purpose without any reason. They are not children, they are monsters.” The heartbroken mom said.
According to reports, the police have apprehended those thought to be responsible for the attack. The bullies claim they set Kyrylo on fire by accident, but detectives are investigating the case.
It is so heartbreaking that bullying is still a very present vice in this day and age. Please remember to teach children kindness and compassion if we are ever to overcome the evil that is bullying.
We’re sending all our prayers in the direction of Kyrylo Yatsun and wish him a speedy recovery.
