A ninety four year old woman got baptized and set out the perfect example, that it’s never too late for anything in this life. Many of us think that as long as our religion is Christian, that automatically makes us closer to God, but there is more to it than just that. Being closer to God means that one has to have that personal relationship with Him.
Ophelia White thought the same, she was a Christian but had never had a personal relationship with God. However, Ophelia’s roommate, Joy Campbell, discovered that White had not yet been baptized. The two got to talking about it and Ophelia decided that she needed to formally accept Jesus Christ as her Lord and savior.
Her baptism took place at the Cook Baptist Church in Ruston, Louisiana, according to The Baptist Message. Ophelia entered the baptismal waters excited and she told her friends and people who came to witness her baptism that it’s never too late to be a Christian.
“It’s inspiring to people, particularly for senior adults to know that God is still touching hearts even in the elderly years. There are many others like Mrs White who went their whole life thinking they knew Christ but understood later their need for him. We see her testimony as a gift from God to our church and are grateful he allowed us to be a part of this. ”
Todd Free, the church’s discipleship and administration pastor, told The Baptist Message.
“That it’s never too late to become a Christian and that you should never give up on a person. It takes time, a lot of time,” Joy said as she spoke of her friend Ophelia.
Ophelia also got her inspiration from Joy’s husband who had been a deacon at the church until it hit him later that he dint have a personal relationship with Christ. He converted at the age of 64.
When it comes to God it’s definitely never too late because he will always have the time for us.
