Friendships between animals of different kinds are nothing strange neither are acts of kindness between them. This is one of those sweet stories.
It is the story of a goose who, during some terrifyingly low temperatures, kept a puppy from the freezing to death.
According to Snopes, the original story of this unlikely pair went something like this, a polar vortex hit North America in January 2019 and a person walking by spotted a goose or duck cradling a cold puppy.
“The man finds a goose that was shaking with cold stuck to a pole in Montana. The goose was sheltering with her wings a puppy that was about to die frozen. We have so much to learn as a species.” a translated archived Facebook post by Suzanne PadaPetra from January 30, 2019 reads.
When the little puppy was hugged by the goose, it did not struggle and was safely taken in the goose’s arms. The motherly instincts of this goose set in instantly when she saw the puppy in need.
Not wanting the little pup to get hurt or die, the goose covered the poor dog with her wings to protect it from the bitter cold. She hoped the warmth would be enough to keep the puppy alive. Even in animals/birds, it is evident just how great a mother’s love is.
What an incredible thing to witness!
The source of these images and the details surrounding the actual story is not completely clear. Nonetheless, they are still so heartwarming.
According to Snopes, the photos have been circulating on Chinese social media since 2017 and are believed to have been taken somewhere in China.
“Although the back story behind these particular photographs may be unclear, it isn’t unprecedented for birds and dogs to strike up friendships. A pelican in Turkey named Osman became a bit of a local celebrity after befriending a dog.” the site further states.
