An incredibly sweet video is fast going viral and tugging on the hearts of many this week! The video shows a 6 year-old girl helping to feed her 4 year-old brother who is struggling with a muscle disease that makes it difficult for him to feed himself.
In the footage, a little girl named Aubree, is seen spoon feeding her little brother Trevor before gently wiping dribble away from his chin at their home in Martinsburg, West Virginia.
Trevor suffers from Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a genetic neurological condition that makes it so that the young boy can’t control his muscles, meaning that he needs help lifting anything, even the smallest of things.
Spinal Muscular Atrophy is caused by a mutation in the spinal cord, and it leads to muscle wasting and shrinkage since sufferers have no control over their muscles. There are different types of SMA and how serious it is depends on which type a person has.
While the muscle disease can wreak havoc on the physical body, it has no affect on someone’s intelligence, ability to think, learn, and build friendships/relationships with others.
Aubree clearly has no problem helping her baby brother out, as she seems to be smiling throughout the whole video. Trevor is certainly very lucky to have a big sister like her!
The video’s caption reads, “Four-year-old Trevor has a disease called SMA. In layman’s terms, he has no muscle. Which makes holding a fork very difficult for him. In the video Aubree, 6, stays and helps him eat even though her friends and sister are outside playing.”
With Aubree for a big sister, Trevor is sure to have a best friend who will be by his side through whatever life might throw his way. Here is the adorable video:
