The world’s richest man, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, has announced that he is donating $98.5 million in 2019 to 32 organizations that help shelter homeless families.
The 55-year-old billionaire’s charity foundation, the Bezos Day 1 Fund, announced the donations this past week.
Back in September 2018, Bezos launched the Bezos Day 1 Fund pledging $2 billion to fund it. The foundation’s two main aims included funding organizations that help homeless families, and providing quality education in low-income communities.
Recent funding went to 32 groups in 23 different states, and ranged in size from $1.25 million to $5 million, according to the reports. The Bezos Day 1 Fund website explains that the money has gone to “Meaningful, high-impact work to provide shelter and support for young families in communities across the country”.
Last year Bezos gave $97.5 million to organizations fighting homelessness to 24 organizations in 16 states.
Jeff Bezos has an estimated net worth of $109 billion, making him the richest man in the world.
Excited to announce this year’s Bezos Day One grants. Thank you to these 32 organizations in 23 states working to end homelessness. I recently spent time with the amazing team at Community of Hope in Washington, D.C. – one of last year’s grantees. https://t.co/Lfy5LUWT99 pic.twitter.com/L0JeDUrjAY
