Adoption chiefs in Russia are seeking a loving home for a unique baby boy born with no eyeballs.
Alexander K, also known as ‘Sasha’ was born back in April. Doctors say the little boy will never be able to see, despite being otherwise perfectly healthy.
According to reports, Alexander’s mother was raised in an orphanage and had decided to give her baby up before he was born as she wasn’t confident she could give him the life he deserved. There is also no information on who or where Alexander’s father is.
Currently, Alexander who is six months old is in the care of a nurse in the Siberian city of Tomsk. The nurse said, “He is no different to other children, he plays and smiles just like any healthy baby. He loves playing and adores swimming. He is a very cheerful baby indeed.”
Sasha has two benign cysts on his forehead, both of which are soon to be removed. Doctors report that he’s suffering from an extreme form of the rare SOX2 anophthalmia syndrome, which affects one in a quarter of a million people. Medics say Alexander is one of only three babies registered in the world with no eyeballs at all.
Sasha is described as ‘unique’ because most children born with the condition also have multiple other ailments.
“Sasha is going through all regular check ups and tests like any other baby of his age. He is doing well.” Doctor Tatiana Rudnikovich said
Unfortunately, doctors don’t think Alexander will ever see, but that doesn’t have to deny him a beautiful, love-filled life. His adoption listing says the boy is ‘a peaceful, smiling baby. He smiles back as soon as he hears familiar voices.’
He will first be up for adoption with Russian parents, but if no suitable parents come forward he can go to foreign guardians.
We’re sending all our prayers and thoughts to baby Alexander. We hope he gets an amazing family who will love him unconditionally.
