Bullies Harassing 5 Year Old Boy, Then Unlikely Hero Has Them Running For The Hills.

In our current day and age, bullying has become a rampant evil that affects pretty much anyone. People don’t seem to know how to show each other kindness and compassion anymore. Often times when you hear of such stories one cant help but wonder, Why didn’t anyone stop it? In one recent case of bullying, no person stepped in to help. That’s when a furry hero decided it was time to stand up for his bestfriend!

Ethan, a five year old boy and his two year old brother were playing soccer in their front yard one day when a group of older boys walked by and started bullying them. They yelled at them and one of them even shoved Ethan to the ground. That’s the moment a quite unlikely hero suddenly leaped to the boys’ rescue. Ethan’s mom, Sarah, had recently gotten him a ginger tabby cat named Smudge after his previous cat died. Ethan and Smudge quickly formed a tight bond. Sarah says Smudge “is more of a brother to the boys than a cat.”

When Smudge saw the older boys harassing his “brothers,” he leaped towards them, hissing and spitting. When that didn’t shake their stance, Smudge leaped on the chest of the boy who had shoved Ethan and continued to hiss at him. That did it! The bullies ran off crying, not quite as tough as they had been in the beginning.

Sarah was left stunned by Smudge’s behavior, but also very grateful for it. She said, “He has never done anything like that before but it was absolutely brilliant seeing him look out for Ethan like that,”  Sarah observed that Smudge has been keeping an intense watchful eye over Ethan ever since the incident.

She said, “He has slept outside his bedroom keeping guard ever since it happened. I actually feel so much safer knowing Smudge is around after seeing him defend him like that.”

For his courageous act, Smudge was nominated for the National Cat of the Year Award through the Cats Protection Charity. While he didn’t win the top award, his family couldn’t be more proud of him! Heroes come in all shapes and sizes…and species! We think Smudge has definitely earned the title!
