This Couple Had No Photos From Their 1946 Marriage. So They Took These 70 Years Later.

High school sweethearts, Ferris and Margaret Romaire from Louisiana had no pictures from their 1946 wedding day. Not too happy about this fact, their granddaughter, Amanda Kleckley, planned a romantic and touching photo shoot for the couple as a gift for their 70th wedding anniversary. Kleckley booked photographer Lara Carter for the special occasion. Framed by a natural setting in Pearland, Texas, 90 year old Ferris donned a tuxedo, while his beautiful wife, 89 year old Margaret stunned in a grey lavender outfit and veil as they posed for the pictures.

The couple smiled, laughed, and hugged while sipping some celebratory champagne. Carter said, “You can see the love between them in the way they interacted with each other and laughed together as we would go from the different poses. They are a beautiful example of what marriage is meant to be.”

The couple left a couple of relationship pointers for the photographer, who has been married for seven years herself. Ferris said that it is vital for a healthy marriage to “give each other space and respect one another” and also “admit when you are wrong, except that Margaret is never wrong!”

On the other hand, Margaret pointed out how important it is to give a good apology. “If you ask Margaret she would say, ‘saying you’re sorry, except that Ferris has a hard time doing that!’” Carter said. “If a problem came up they solved it. It was more important to compromise and move on than to be right. Two was always better than one!”

The couple revealed that their wedding on Nov. 24, 1946 was in fact very simple and brief, lasting only fifteen minutes, after which the bride’s family hosted the reception. They have lived in Morgan City, Louisiana ever since.

“They still live in the same home they built for a growing family 65 years ago. They didn’t have lots of money, but they had lots of shared values the love of children, a good work ethic, a strong faith in God and a sense of humor.” Carter said.

The couple have four children, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. For more pictures and information click Lara Carter Photography
