There are those times in life when you feel like you can’t go on, you are going through rough times, things just keep pilling up. No matter how hard you try, nothing seems to go your way. Those are the times you really need someone to lean on, someone to show you kindness.
A Providence woman, Andrea, has had a tough year. Recently, she had to go to traffic court, before Judge Caprio to dispute multiple tickets. At the court, the depressed woman couldn’t hold back her pain anymore. She revealed, amidst tears, that her son was killed just a year ago in March of 2016. Following his death, the state cut her social security check because her son had owed $75 to the state. The events of her year only worsened after that. Andrea was evicted from her home.
Andrea said she’s still paying off her son’s funeral from a year ago, and struggling to scrounge up all the money necessary to pay off her tickets while also moving into a new apartment. On top of the financial burden she’s carrying, Andrea also tells Judge Caprio that she’s on antidepressants, and the death of her son has left her feeling “empty and lost.”
Judge Caprio is clearly a man who understands that the spirit of the law is best served with equal helpings of mercy and understanding. His reaction will restore your faith in humanity.
