Her Ex Raped Her And Threw Acid In Her Face – A Decade Later Katie Piper Is Victorious

In 2008, Katie Piper’s life was turned upside down. The man expected to love and protect her did something despicable that broke her and shattered everything she knew to be reality.

Katie was working as a model and TV presenter back then. She had been dating David Lynch for about two weeks before he turned on her and did something unexpected. The man drove her to a hotel room and sexually assaulted her. He also violently beat her and threatened to kill her.

Two days after he raped and assaulted her at the hotel, Lynch hired a man to throw sulphuric acid in her face near her home.

The vicious and inhumane attack left Katie with serious burns to her face and torso and blinded in one eye. Katie had to spend about two months in hospital after the attack according to The Sun.

She also had to undergo a total of 40 surgeries to treat the burns. She also had to wear a protective mask around the clock to protect herself from infection and promote faster healing.

Despite all the pain and unimaginable trauma Katie had to go through, she showed immeasurable courage. Only a year after she survived the horrific attacks, Katie started the Katie Piper Foundation, an organization established with a vision of “having a world where scars do not limit a person’s function, social inclusion or sense of well-being.”

Katie’s organization helps vulnerable women and burns survivors throughout their recovery journey and helps fund medical tattoos, hair repair and scar adjustments.

To have her influence spread even further, Katie started a career as a filmmaker. She made a documentary that won prizes and featured as a guest on several prominent TV shows to talk about the challenges and tribulations of her journey.

8 years after the attack, Katie was also able to find love and got married to a good man, Richard Sutton. The couple was also blessed with two beautiful little daughters named Belle and Penelope.

Talking to the Daily Mirror, Katie revealed, “I feel so lucky to have met my husband – he’s a gift from God. He’s an amazing person who changed my life for the better. He has given me our daughter and it’s one of the best things that has happened to me.”

Katie also revealed that it was not easy to overcome everything she went through. “I spent three or four years putting all these barriers in the way. I’m probably still guilty of it when I have a crisis of confidence. In those early days I created barriers in my head about not being able to get back to work or not feeling attractive.” she said, according to the Mirror.

“When I was single and dating my now-husband, I thought ‘he’ll never fancy me. This is going to go wrong. He won’t like me. What’s the point in going?’ But then I thought, ‘What do I lose?’

“My experiences have taught me that confidence and happiness are life choices. It’s not luck.” She added.

Katie Piper is such a strong, courageous and inspirational woman. She rose from everything that would have easily broken her and is using her experience to help others.
