‘It Is Well With My Soul’ was composed by Philip Bliss and written by Horatio Spafford after Horatio went through a heartbreaking and traumatic period.

The first was the death of his 2-year-old son and the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, which absolutely ruined him financially. Then he lost all four of his daughters in a ship accident from which only his wife survived.

Horatio wrote the song as a testament of how God is with us through the good and the bad times.

“Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
Let this blest assurance control,
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
And hath shed His own blood for my soul”

“My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought
My sin, not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, o my soul”

Listen to the powerful lyrics as Guy Penrod and David Phelps sing this legendary gospel hymn. It is such an inspirational and encouraging song to let us know that even when times may seem dark, our Lord will always come through for us.
