Recently, BBC Earth has shared a clip from their documentary series, Dynasties, that shows an intense scene showing a lion named Red in a lot of trouble, after finding himself surrounded by a pack of over twenty blood-thirsty hyenas.
Sure, lions are strong and majestic jungle cats, in fact they are well known as the king of the jungle, but that doesn’t mean that life is any easier for them in a ‘survival for the fittest’ setting.
During a segment on the new BBC series Dynasties, Sir David Attenborough narrates a scene where Red the lion is caught in an altercation with a pack of hyenas after he unknowingly wanders into hyena territory alone.
While red is a huge and intimidating beast, a single lion is no match for a gang of over 20 hyenas. The cackle of hyenas starts to slowly approach Red the lion in a menacing manner. As they get closer, they start attacking and biting Red.
Realizing how deeply in trouble he was given that he was dangerously outnumbered, Red began to roar, hoping somebody would hear him.
Fortunately, somebody did. Red’s cousin, Tatu, heard the roars and he immediately rushed to the rescue of his family member.
Tatu greatly ups the odds of the lions winning, and the hyenas noticing this, all scurry away leaving the pair of lions alone in the brush.
The intense video ends with the lions having a touching moment as they comfort each other after their scary ordeal and Red looks very grateful.
It just goes to show that the power of unity and a strong bond really can help you out in tough situations.
