Like any young woman with goals and dreams of becoming a supermodel, Katie Harries was beyond elated to make her catwalk debut.
The 24-year-old, from New South Wales, Australia has Down’s syndrome, but she’s never let that hold her back in any way.
According to ABC, Katie revealed that she wanted to model to “show the world just how beautiful I am”. It turns out, people absolutely adore her and agree that Katie truly is beautiful. According to reports, the models, designers, and audience at her first runway show immediately took to her.
“As soon as she did her first solo walk the whole crowd got up and started cheering for her and calling out her name,” model Krysta Heath, who is the winner of the 2018 Miss Planet Australia and Katie’s coach for the catwalk, revealed.
“In Katie’s words, she just owned it.” Krysta added.
Amy De’Friskbom, who organized the fashion show, said it was “the best feeling in the world” to watch the 19 models on the catwalk. She also revealed that she had noticed a lack of models with disabilities and following the success of the local event, she now believes the idea could ‘explode’.
“It would be a good way to show everyone is the same, no matter what they look like,” She said.
Katie, a beautiful and confident young lady who is determined to actualize all her dreams is now following in the footsteps of Madeline Stuart, an Australian model with Down’s syndrome who has gained international recognition and American gymnast Chelsea Werner.
“I am beautiful from the inside and outside and I want to become a model so people can really see who I am,” Katie said.
Many congratulations to you Katie, and we pray your goals and dreams come true!
