Three years after doctors told her she only had a few months left to live and she was infertile, a mom from Leeds delivered a healthy baby boy whom she calls her miracle.
35 year old Helen Dixon fell ill in 2015. At first, doctors thought that the symptoms were because of a miscarriage but she was later diagnosed with cervical cancer
Helen already had two daughters from a previous relationship and really wanted a son with her husband, Paul. So after she completed her chemotherapy, she started looking for a surrogate.
She was incredibly surprised when she learnt she was pregnant. “The doctors didn’t expect me to last this long and had said I couldn’t get pregnant. They were all shocked.” she said.
“It was strange. I woke up one day and said I really feel pregnant. I was scared, excited and nervous at the same time. I was rushed for an emergency scan and found out I was over three and a half weeks gone.” Helen further revealed.
She had Harvey George 3lbs 5 oz via emergency c-section and stayed in the hospital for 16 days before she finally went home with her bundle of joy. “We were hoping for a boy and he’s made the family complete. He’s our little miracle.” She said.
Doctors suspect her cancer could return again and her diagnosis continues to be incurable. “She’s such a fighter, that’s where I get my strength.” Hellen’s husband, Paul, said.
“I would have cracked up if she hadn’t been so positive and strong. On my bad days, she’s lifted me back up again. She wouldn’t give up. We’re just enjoying life together while we can.” He added.
