Two police officers from North Carolina went out of their way to buy food and groceries for a woman who was caught stealing food so she could feed her hungry children.
Her children had not eaten in three days! The woman by the name Theresa West was arrested after she stole food worth 36 dollars from a local Food Lion.
After they received a call reporting the crime, the police officers were able to track down the woman through security video. Theresa explained that she felt this was the only option for her, so she could be able to feed her three adopted children and herself after having had nothing to eat for three days.
The police officers checked Theresa’s fridge and saw it was empty. “I had to go out and steal food, and that’s desperate, and I’m sorry for doing what I did but my kids were hungry.” Theresa said.
The police officers still had to charge Theresa with a misdemeanor larceny, but after hearing the whole of Theresa’s story, and learning that the woman had recently suffered a traumatic brain injury and is currently unable to work, they decided that they wanted to do something sweet for the poor woman and her children.
Corporal Keith Bradshaw, and his partner, Officer Candace Spragins, decided to help out with buying Theresa and her children some food supplies and groceries worth over 140 dollars.
Talking to the WNCN, police officer Bradshaw said, “It’s not all about just going out and charging folks,” Bradshaw said.
“Sometimes you gotta go that extra mile and look for other ways of helping and improving your community and the quality of life for the people in the community and if that improves her life a little bit and it helps her, I will do it again tomorrow.”He added.
