Anyone taking their dog to a dog groomer expects their furry best-friends to be treated well, groomed and pampered. But unfortunately, that may not always what they get.
A dog groomer from Florida is currently in custody after he was accused of felony cruelty to animals for an attack on a service dog that resulted in the amputation of its tail.
What the contract worker did to a German Shepherd dog was caught on camera and has gone viral as thousands expressed their absolute shock at this poor dog’s treatment.
Apparently, the groomer was angry that the 8-year-old German Shepherd service dog wouldn’t stand still during the grooming appointment. Video captured him grabbing the dog’s tail while swinging the animal off the ground and twisting the tail so hard it broke.
The sheriff responsible for bringing this cruel animal abuser to justice has a stark warning for anyone else caught mistreating an animal.
Sheriff Wayne Ivey, from Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, posted the upsetting and cruel act against this defenseless dog on Facebook and warned, “As I have said before…if you harm an animal in Brevard County we will take your butt straight to jail!!”
Sheriff Ivey further describes the encounter with the groomer, James Cordell Doughty Suthann. He said, “During a grooming appointment, Suthann became angry when an 8 year old German Shepard Service Dog would not stand still as Suthann was trying to complete the grooming process.”
“(He) grabs the dog’s tail and completely lifts him off the ground causing the pet’s tail to be twisted a full 360 degrees and to be broken to the extent it could not be reattached.” He added.
The dog named TT is a service dog whose owner is a disabled veteran who has PTSD. His owner is heartbroken by what happened to his poor dog.
Sheriff Ivey refused to post the video on Facebook saying its very shocking and graphic. However, a small part of it was released by News 6 Orlando later on that day.
Describing what was in the video, Sheriff Ivey says the dog’s head was held down so he couldn’t move as Suthann continued to strike him on the back of the head with the nozzle of the shower he was using to clean him.
“Because of the significant level of injury, TT had to have emergency surgery to amputate her tail and is in the process of recovering,” Sheriff Ivey wrote.
The grooming facility immediately fired Suthann and promised to take all precautions necessary to make sure nothing of the sort ever happens again.
Even though the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office was able to track down and arrest Suthann very quickly, its very heartbreaking that what happened to the poor dog will forever remain as scar on him.
We wish poor TT a speedy recovery.
