Turia Pitt and husband Michael Hoskin’s love story is one for the books. From the moment he met Turia, Michael knew she was the woman he was going to marry. But in 2011, a devastating accident turned their worlds upside-down.

Turia Pitt, who is Australian Athlete, is also a mining engineer, humanitarian, athlete, motivational speaker, and author. In 2011, Turia was competing in a marathon in western Australia when she got trapped in a bush-fire and suffered horrible burns to 65 percent of her body.

She had almost succumbed to her injuries and even the doctors weren’t sure she would make it. Fortunately, she pulled through, but the accident destroyed every recognizable trace of her radiant appearance. She lost her fingers and thumb on her right hand and spent five months in the hospital undergoing over 200 surgeries.

Before the tragic accident, Turia had just landed her dream job at Rio Tinto and had started a new life with Michael before it all came crushing down. However, through it all, Michael remained right by her side.

Turia often says it was Michael’s love that kept her going during her horrific ordeal, revealing he makes her feel like “the luckiest girl in the world.”

During her on-going hospitalization, Michael bought Turia an engagement ring and promised himself that “If Turia lives, I’ll marry her immediately. ”

For two years, Turia had to undergo extensive reconstructive surgeries, and intense physiotherapy.

While many would have chosen to just walk away from the relationship at this point, Michael decided walking away from his job as a police officer was a better option so he could fully take care of his bride to be.

Gradually, Turia began to rehabilitate. “You’re beautiful, You’re still my girl.” Michael would tell her every day.

In July of 2015, Michael proposed to Turia in the Maldives and the pair got married in 2016.
In June 2017, the couple announced the exciting news of  the arrival of their baby.

Through several interviews with a focus on her survival, love, trials, and beauty, Turia has made one thing absolutely clear, Michael’s unwavering love for her, is what saved her life after devastating tragedy.

In Friday Magazine, she said, “When I look in the mirror, I see the beautiful girl Michael sees because like Michael, I know beauty comes from within and what really matters is who we are, not what we look like.”

“I was attracted to her soul, and her character. She’s the only woman that will continue to fulfill my dreams.” Michael added.
