Life and death are one thread, the same line viewed from different sides. For Lyndee to continue living, words meant more than just an affirmation. It meant war between her body and mind, the kind of fight that makes some extraordinary.
Lyndee Pellettiere-Swapp, mother and wife, was found unconscious by her son. She was rushed to the hospital where she would fight for her life in a coma for the next twelve days.
Hope is the only thing stronger than fear. With time, it became clear that there would be nothing left for the doctors to do medically for Lyndee. The doctors discussed the situation with her husband who considered their advice. This meant a few things;
Lyndee’s husband had to consent her plug pulled.
Lyndee’s organs would be donated to needing patients since she was an organ donor.
Lyndee’s plug would have to be pulled, and thus her life ended.
Lyndee’s family would lose the foundation of their union. Mother and wife, would be gone. Forever.
No winter lasts forever. When they decided to pull the plug, she was not brain dead! This meant that she could hear and understand the conversations people had beside her. She understood every word and emotion from her beloved family who would spend hours by her side hoping those were not her last minutes of her life.
She had heard the doctors discussing the remaining options with her family. She had all along heard them coming in and out of the room .Her daughter had read her a story and she heard every word of it. She willed to live.
Even if Linda grew wings and escaped, she would still be trapped in her own body. Her body wouldn’t respond no matter how much she tried. It failed her. There were already two medical couriers waiting outside of the hospital door with time ticking closer and closer towards her organs being donated. There were recipients waiting. How life would soon be quickly snatched from her.
It was not over yet for Lyndee. In the presence of a doctor and her husband, she at last managed three words:
“I’m a fighter.”
Words that had been repeated over and over again by her loving husband had finally made their way to her soul and she had found strength in them. Lyndee slowly began to recover and would soon start talking to her family who considered it miraculous. She proceeded to a full recovery.
We all hope for breakthrough rebirth moments. Lyndee had fought a good fight. From the very jaws of death, she had escaped to this condition. A testimony and a stronger will to live than ever before followed.
Indeed, there is power in determination.
