For the past two years, Tyler Boone, a 10 year old boy, has been growing his hair out to make a wig for his 12 year old friend, Gabby Ruiz. Through the entire process, the young selfless boy has had to endure a lot of negativity from his peers, bullies and countless comments that have mistaken him for a girl, just so he could be able to get a smile on his friend’s face. Speaking to ABC News, a smiling Tyler said, “I’m used to it now… I just want to make her happy.” The pair met years ago and since then have shared a strong friendship, despite living a hundred miles apart.Gabby was just four years old when she was diagnosed with alopecia-areata, a hair loss disorder where the immune system attacks the hair follicles. Gabby’s family has sought a variety of treatments for their child, but nothing has been able to grow her hair. So when Tyler met Gabby, he decided to grow his hair for her.On the 29th of December, the two friends and their families met at the JCPenney’s store in Florida’s Westfield Brandon Mall. They had a good time through out their photo-shoot, before the big haircut that they had all been waiting for.
Gabby personally cut 12 inches of Tyler’s hair as the photographer captured every moment of it. The hair will be donated to Children with Hair Loss, a nonprofit organization that will make a wig just for Gabby. “He’s a great person and he’s amazing,” Gabby said of her best friend. This truly captures the essence of true friendship.
