A kind-hearted YouTuber ‘grandpa’ who made free meals for orphans has passed away.

Grandpa Narayana Reddy started his YouTube channel ‘Grandpa Kitchen’ 2 years ago. He channel grew quickly and gained millions of followers who all loved to watch the elderly man cook massive meals for orphans in one sitting.

As the grandpa strived to grow his YouTube channel, it attracted more than 6 million subscribers since it got launched in August 2017. The 73 year old didn’t just cook, he also used the proceeds of the channel to feed local orphans and other underprivileged people living on the outskirts of Hyderabad, in southern Telangana state.

An emotional video uploaded to the Grandpa Kitchen channel showed the kind Reddy being laid to rest after an elaborate funeral procession, his body draped in flowers and grieving members of the community following the cortege. “You … live forever in our hearts,” the video said.

Reddy passed away on October 27 but his family waited until after his funeral to inform his followers. Speaking to CNN, Reddy’s grandnephew, Srikanth Reddy, revealed that the idea for the channel came from Reddy cooking massive meals for his family. “We used to have jobs in the city and would visit him during the holidays and he would always make big meals for us. We then got the idea that we should do the same for the community.” He said.

In his amazing cooking videos, which all boast of millions of views, Reddy cooked up huge dishes like American lasagne, french-fries, chicken biryani and KFC-style chicken. He also taught his followers how to make more elaborate dishes at home cheaply.

On Patreon, a popular fundraising platform, Reddy’s biography reads, “We entertain people by cooking food and donate the proceeds to charities. Our goal is to provide basic necessities like food, clothing, school supplies and birthday gifts to the orphans.”

A week before he passed away, a visibly ailing Reddy made his final appearance on his YouTube channel in a live video to update his followers on his health and the channel.

The news of Reddy’s demise devastated all his followers with one viewer describing him as ‘the most wholesome man of YouTube.’

Another commenter wrote, “Been following him for a long time and I can’t really put into words how painful this is for me.”

Another fan thanked the YouTube sensation for the ‘joy’ he brought to the world, writing, “Rest in peace Grandpa… we will miss you and your videos. The way you help others is so inspiring. Thank you so much for the joy you’ve given to others and the joy of your viewers. We are family. Thank you and we will miss you.”
