‘16 and Pregnant’ star Whitney Purvis mourns tragic death of 16-year-old son Weston

The MTV alum shares the devastating news that her teenage son has died, calling it “my worst nightmare come true.”

Whitney Purvis, known for her role on MTV’s 16 and Pregnant, is grieving the unimaginable loss of her son, Weston Gosa Jr., who died suddenly at the age of 16.

On June 2, Whitney, now 33, shared her pain in a raw and emotional Facebook post. She revealed that her son Weston had passed away that morning. Alongside the message, she posted heartfelt photos of Weston, showing their close bond through the years.

“This is so hard to write,” she began. “My beautiful son, Weston, has passed away. He was only 16 years old. Life is so cruel and unfair. I just don’t understand.”

In a follow-up post, she added a photo of herself holding Weston tightly. “Rest in Peace, my baby Weston. I love you forever,” she wrote. “You’ll always be my baby.”

Although the exact cause of Weston’s death has not been confirmed, his stepmother shared that Weston had been battling several health issues, including diabetes. She explained that he was found unresponsive early that morning and despite CPR efforts by family and paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the hospital in Gordon County, Georgia.

“We got up this morning around 7 a.m. and tried to wake him up. He was not breathing,” she shared online. “It was so unexpected. Losing a child is the most painful thing I have ever experienced.”

An autopsy is underway to determine the official cause of death.

Friends and family described Weston as “brilliant, smart, funny,” and a teen with a bright future. Born in 2009, Weston first appeared on national television as a newborn when Whitney starred on the first season of 16 and Pregnant. At the time, Whitney was a teenager herself, navigating early motherhood with Weston’s father, Weston Sr.

Whitney and Weston Sr. later had another child, River, in 2014, but eventually went their separate ways.

In recent years, Whitney faced personal struggles. In 2024, she made headlines again after being arrested for allegedly failing to pay child support and reportedly lost custody of both her sons. Despite these setbacks, it’s clear that her love for Weston remained strong, as seen in her heartbreaking tributes.

“I was so proud of the young man you were becoming,” she wrote. “I would do anything just to hold him again.”

As Whitney and her family try to make sense of this sudden loss, fans and friends have flooded social media with support. Many have sent prayers and condolences, sharing in the grief of a young life gone too soon.

Weston’s memory now lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His mother’s raw words reflect a pain no parent should ever have to endure.

“You are gone too soon. April 2, 2009 – June 2, 2025. Rest in peace, my angel.”

If you or someone you know is struggling with grief, support is available through national hotlines and local mental health resources.
