Mariah Carey didn’t call her sister Alison despite being told she was dying, says friend

A friend reveals Mariah Carey’s lack of contact with her sister Alison after being informed of her critical condition

Mariah Carey, the legendary singer, faced an unimaginable tragedy last weekend when she lost both her mother and sister on the same day. The news was confirmed by Carey herself through a sorrowful post on social media, where she expressed, “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.”

This devastating experience is one that words can hardly describe. Carey had a complicated relationship with both her mother, Patricia Carey, and her sister, Alison Carey. While Mariah was able to spend time with her mother during her final days, the relationship with her sister was far more strained.

Mariah Carey and Alison Carey had been estranged for many years. Mariah had accused Alison of physical and psychological abuse during their childhood, leading to a deep rift between the two. While Mariah’s life was marked by incredible success, rising to stardom with her powerful voice, Alison faced numerous challenges, including battling HIV and struggling with drug addiction.

In 2016, Alison made a public plea for reconciliation with Mariah, hoping to mend their fractured relationship. However, the divide between them only grew wider in 2020 when Alison filed a $1.25 million lawsuit against Mariah. The lawsuit was based on allegations made in Mariah’s memoir, where she claimed that Alison had drugged her when she was 12 years old and caused third-degree burns.

Despite Alison’s deteriorating health, the sisters never reconciled. According to David Baker, a friend of Alison, Mariah was aware that her sister was dying but chose not to reach out. Baker revealed that Alison often expressed sadness over the lack of contact from Mariah and wondered if her sister or any relatives would attend her funeral.

The loss of both a mother and sister on the same day is an overwhelming grief that few can comprehend. Our thoughts are with Mariah Carey as she navigates this profound sorrow.
