The puppy, later named Winston, was in terrible condition—emaciated, covered in mites, and barely clinging to life. Alone in an unoccupied fishing shack, Winston was close to giving up. But Wesley’s appearance gave the little dog hope. Wesley described the moment he saw the puppy’s tail wag weakly, realizing that this fragile creature had been waiting for a savior.
Without hesitation, Wesley sprang into action. With just two days left in Belize, he wrapped the pup in a pair of swimming trunks and rushed him back to the mainland. Hotel staff pitched in to help, feeding the malnourished puppy and arranging for a vet. Despite Winston’s poor physical state, the vet found that his internal organs were healthy, giving everyone hope for his recovery.

Though Wesley had to return to his home in Montana, leaving Winston behind was heart-wrenching. He couldn’t stop thinking about the little dog he had saved. Determined not to give up, Wesley set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for Winston’s continued care, ensuring the puppy would receive the treatment he needed.
A month after their initial meeting, Wesley found a way to bring Winston to the United States. The two were reunited in Dallas, and the bond they shared was undeniable. Winston, now healthier and full of life, recognized his rescuer immediately, showering him with affection.
