Former ‘NCIS’ star Pauley Perrette shares heartfelt update after major stroke

Pauley Perrette opens up about her recovery and shares an emotional health update after a serious stroke

Actress Pauley Perrette, best known for her memorable role as Abby Sciuto on NCIS, is admired by many for her years of dedication to the show. However, her departure in 2018 came with behind-the-scenes challenges that sparked curiosity and concern among fans.

One key incident involved a conflict with co-star Mark Harmon, whose dog reportedly bit a crew member on set. Perrette felt uncomfortable with how Harmon managed the situation, especially when the dog continued to appear on set.

While Harmon defended that his dog was always on a leash, other accounts disagreed. Despite this rift, Perrette expressed gratitude toward her fans when she announced her exit, asking them to cherish Abby’s legacy and the joy the character brought for 16 years. “I hope everyone will love and enjoy EVERYTHING ABBY not only for the rest of this season but for everything she has given all of us for 16 years. All the love, all the laughter, all the inspiration,” she wrote in a heartfelt social media post.

In a recent turn of events, Perrette opened up about a personal health scare. A year ago, she suffered a severe stroke that left her fighting for her life. Sharing her experience on social media, she admitted, “One year ago I had a massive stoke [sic]. Before that I lost so many beloved family and friends …Yet still a survivor after this traumatic life I’ve been given so far..” she wrote. She reflected on the emotional toll, including the loss of her father and cousin before the stroke. Through it all, Perrette is thankful for her recovery, saying, “I am doing great and am super healthy now.”

Recalling the moment she realized something was wrong, Perrette detailed how she woke up with complete numbness on the right side of her body. ““I woke up and had no feeling on the entire right side of my body,” Perrette said.

“At first I thought I had just slept funny. When I kept realizing the extent of the numbness; couldn’t feel my finger touching my face, couldn’t feel my face being touched by my finger, couldn’t feel my laptop sitting on my lap, no feeling at all on the right hand side — I could have burned myself or cut my finger off and wouldn’t have known,” she shared. Her doctor’s immediate response was to send her to the emergency room, where she received urgent care. “They know how serious a stroke is and how immediate care is imperative,” she added.

Perrette’s story emphasizes an important reminder: strokes can affect anyone, regardless of age. “I want to thank everyone for their concern and take this opportunity to really plead for everyone to educate themselves on the signs of a stroke and the importance of getting medical help immediately,” she urged, pointing out that even teenagers can suffer from this condition.

On the personal front, Perrette, who has experienced both marriage and separation, now embraces independence. “Tried it. Not for me,” she said about dating. “ I don’t have to have a boyfriend, or a husband, or a girlfriend, or anything, you know?’”
