Blues Brothers actress Dalyce Curry dies in tragic LA wildfire
Beloved actress passes away as devastating wildfires continue to impact Los Angeles residents and communities.
The family of Dalyce Curry, a former extra in the iconic movie The Blues Brothers, has confirmed that she tragically lost her life in the recent Los Angeles wildfires. The wildfires, which continue to wreak havoc across Southern California, have already claimed 25 lives, displaced thousands, and left entire neighborhoods in ruins.
Dalyce Curry, 95, spent her final moments at her Altadena home before flames from the Eaton Fire engulfed her neighborhood. Her granddaughter, Dalyce Kelley, shared the devastating news on Facebook earlier this week, writing, “We had a great run. She impacted my life in so many ways. This loss is devastating.”
Kelley also recalled her grandmother’s last words, spoken just hours before the fire reached Curry’s residence. On January 8, Kelley had brought Curry home from the hospital, noticing smoke in the distance but feeling reassured since no evacuation orders had been issued.
“She gave me a big wet kiss and said, ‘I love you.’ I said, ‘I love you too,’” Kelley shared, adding that they both felt exhausted from the day’s events and believed they were safe. “Sometimes her kisses were so wet that you’d have to wipe them off—that’s just who she was, so loving.”
It was the last time Kelley saw her grandmother alive.
The tragedy unfolds
In the early hours of January 9, Kelley awoke to alarming news: the Eaton Fire had spread rapidly, devastating several blocks of Altadena. Rushing to the area, Kelley was met with barricades and scenes of destruction.
“It was all black, and I just panicked because I felt like I was in hell,” Kelley described. A man passing by yelled that his house had burned down, intensifying her fears.
After providing Curry’s address to an officer, Kelley received confirmation that her grandmother’s home had been completely destroyed. A few days later, her worst fears were realized when county Medical Examiner officials confirmed Curry’s remains were found in the rubble.
A beloved life lost amid a historic disaster
Curry’s death is one of at least 25 fatalities reported in the ongoing Southern California wildfires, which are being called some of the worst in U.S. history. The fires, fueled by dry conditions and strong winds, have forced thousands to flee, leaving behind homes, businesses, and lifelong memories.
Kelley described her grandmother as a loving and vibrant person who left a lasting impact on everyone she met. “She loved big, and her kisses were proof of that,” Kelley said.
A community in mourning
Curry’s passing is a stark reminder of the human toll of natural disasters. The wildfires have devastated countless families, leaving a community grieving and grappling with unimaginable losses. On social media, people have shared their condolences and heartbreak for those affected.
Looking forward: Supporting wildfire victims
As rescue and recovery efforts continue, many organizations are stepping up to provide aid to those impacted by the wildfires. Local shelters, disaster relief funds, and volunteer groups are offering support to evacuees and rebuilding efforts.
Curry’s story is one of heartbreak, but it also serves as a call to action. Her family urges people to stay vigilant during emergencies, heed evacuation warnings, and support those affected by disasters.
Rest in peace, Dalyce Curry, and all the victims of this devastating tragedy.
