How Meghan Markle’s ex found his own success after their messy split
A look inside Trevor Engelson’s journey from a rocky marriage with Meghan Markle to building a thriving career after their divorce.
After a dramatic split with Meghan Markle, Trevor Engelson has rebuilt his life, found love again, and achieved major success in Hollywood—proving that happiness can bloom after heartbreak.
Years before Meghan Markle became a global name as the Duchess of Sussex, she was married to Hollywood producer Trevor Engelson. The pair met in 2004 and, after seven years of dating, tied the knot in a lavish three-day wedding in Jamaica in September 2011. Their marriage, however, was short-lived, ending in 2013, with Meghan citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split.
Trevor and Meghan seemed like a promising couple at first, supporting each other in their respective careers. Trevor, born on October 23, 1976, in Long Island, New York, had worked his way up from being a production assistant to becoming a successful producer. Meanwhile, Meghan’s acting career was on the rise, landing her a breakout role in the legal drama Suits shortly after their wedding.
Despite their shared ambitions, distance and career demands took a toll on their relationship. Meghan moved to Toronto for Suits filming, and as she built a new life there, their bond began to fade. Royal biographer Andrew Morton wrote in Meghan: A Hollywood Princess:
“Whether she wanted to admit it to herself or not, Meghan, who once said she couldn’t imagine life without Trevor by her side, was now building a new world for herself. As Toronto was becoming more her home than LA, the dynamics in their relationship subtly altered.”
According to Morton, Meghan even posted her engagement and wedding rings back to Trevor as a sign that their marriage had ended.
Life after divorce – Meghan’s rise and Trevor’s “revenge”
While Meghan went on to marry Prince Harry and embrace royal life, Trevor largely stayed out of the spotlight. Markle’s half-brother Thomas told Express that Trevor “worshipped the ground she walked on.”
“Trevor was devastated at the split,” an insider told The Sun in 2017. “She suddenly had no more time for him. Meghan broke Trevor’s heart, pure and simple. He is still in love with her, and so the revelation of her new relationship with Harry has hit him hard.”
In 2017, Fox reported that Engelson was to be a co-producer on a show about a man who must share custody of his child – after his ex-wife married a British prince. According to Deadline at the time, “the lead characters are not based on Markle or Engelson.”
Today, Trevor has fully moved on, both personally and professionally. In May 2019, he married Tracey Kurland, a dietitian and the daughter of a late multi-millionaire who reportedly left her an inheritance of $250 million. Together, Trevor and Tracey are raising two daughters, Ford Grace, born in 2020, and Sienna Lee, born in 2021.
“When I saw him recently, he kept going on about how he’s the happiest he’s ever been, how he loves being a dad, and how he’s never felt more fulfilled,” a friend told the Daily Mail.
“Everyone in Trevor’s life knows not to mention the ‘M’ word. He’s moved on and, in some ways, you could say he’s having an even better life than Meghan. He probably has more money than she does now; he’s doing what he loves, and he’s out of the spotlight. It’s the ultimate revenge.”
A thriving career and life out of the spotlight
Professionally, Trevor continues to thrive as a Hollywood producer. He’s been involved in projects like Remember Me (starring Robert Pattinson), License to Wed, and the hit FX series Snowfall. He also runs Underground, a management and production company based in Beverly Hills, representing screenwriters, novelists, and filmmakers.
Trevor’s former childhood friend Nikki Priddy and author Lady Colin Campbell have commented on his relationship with Meghan and how their personalities differed. Campbell wrote in Meghan and Harry: The Real Story:
“Trevor had always been laidback where she was controlled and controlling. He would arrive for appointments slightly late and disheveled, his shirt out of his trousers and maybe a spot of food on his lapel, while the perfectly contained and self-possessed Meghan was always immaculately turned out.”
Trevor has fully embraced his life outside the media frenzy. According to the Daily Mail, Trevor and his wife live in a “wealthy” Los Angeles neighborhood, and he “adores” his wife and children. The friend added, “He’s moved on and, in some ways, you could say he’s having an even better life than Meghan.”
Trevor Engelson’s story is one of resilience. Though his divorce from Meghan Markle was difficult, he has built a life filled with love, success, and joy. His journey shows that moving on from heartbreak isn’t just possible—it can lead to something even better.
