New clue in Morgan Nick case — What we know about her disappearance
Authorities continue to investigate the 1995 case of the missing 6-year-old, hoping for new leads.
In 1995, 6-year-old Morgan Nick vanished from an Arkansas ballpark, leaving behind a decades-long mystery. Now, nearly 30 years later, a crucial DNA breakthrough may bring investigators closer to solving the case.
On June 9, 1995, Morgan Nick and her mother, Colleen, attended a Little League baseball game in Alma, Arkansas, a small town about 145 miles northwest of Little Rock. As the game wrapped up, Morgan, a bright-eyed blonde girl wearing a green Girl Scout T-shirt, asked to catch fireflies with friends near the parking lot.
Colleen hesitated but eventually agreed. It was a simple, innocent request—one that tragically became the last time she saw her daughter.
At around 10:45 p.m., Morgan was last seen by her friends near her mother’s car, shaking sand from her shoes. Moments later, she was gone.

Her disappearance sparked a massive search effort, but no trace of Morgan was found. Witnesses recalled seeing a “creepy” man talking to her, and investigators focused on a red pickup truck seen in the area. Despite countless searches and tips, Morgan Nick remained missing.
Investigations, dead ends, and renewed hope
Over the years, authorities followed multiple leads, including digging up land in Booneville, Arkansas, and searching a vacant house in Spiro, Oklahoma, based on potential connections to Morgan’s case. These efforts yielded no concrete evidence.
A major breakthrough came in 2019 when investigators revisited a long-standing person of interest—Billy Jack Lincks. Lincks, who passed away in 2000, had a criminal history involving child solicitation. He also drove a red pickup truck, a key detail from the night Morgan disappeared.
The FBI later discovered that fibers from Lincks’ truck closely matched those from Morgan’s shirt. However, with Lincks deceased, authorities had no way to directly question him further.

Then, in 2020, investigators recovered a strand of hair from Lincks’ truck and submitted it for DNA testing.
The DNA discovery that could change everything
In 2024, nearly four years after collecting the hair, investigators made a stunning revelation: The DNA from the strand was linked to Colleen Nick, Morgan’s mother.
This meant that the hair could belong to Colleen, one of her siblings, or one of her children—including Morgan. While not an absolute confirmation, it was the strongest physical evidence yet that Morgan had been inside Lincks’ vehicle.
“The physical evidence collected from the truck Lincks owned when Morgan was abducted strongly indicates that Morgan had been in his truck,” said Alma Police Chief Jeff Pointer.
At a press conference, Colleen Nick, who has spent nearly 30 years searching for her daughter, tearfully declared, “He stole Morgan from me. He stole her from her dad. But he didn’t see that he could never win. Because our love for Morgan, her memory, and her voice outlasted his life.”
The investigation remains active, with authorities determined to find answers.

A case that changed how missing children are searched for
Morgan Nick’s case has had a lasting impact on child abduction investigations in the U.S.
In 1996, Colleen Nick founded the Morgan Nick Foundation, offering support to families of missing children and working to prevent similar tragedies. The AMBER Alert system in Arkansas is also named in Morgan’s honor, ensuring her legacy continues to help others.
Her story has been featured on Unsolved Mysteries, America’s Most Wanted, and the Hulu docuseries Still Missing Morgan—bringing renewed attention to the case.
Morgan’s family remains hopeful that this latest DNA discovery will finally bring closure.

The search for Morgan continues
