Why Caitlyn Jenner’s kids still call her “dad” after transition

Despite her gender transition, Caitlyn Jenner’s children continue to use "dad," showing their deep bond and family dynamics.

Despite publicly transitioning in 2015, Caitlyn Jenner’s children—including Kendall and Kylie—still call her “dad.” She recently explained why, sparking curiosity and debate among fans.

Caitlyn Jenner, born William Bruce Jenner on October 28, 1949, rose to fame after winning gold in the decathlon at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. With a world-record score of 8,618 points, she was celebrated as the greatest athlete in the world.

After retiring from sports, Jenner transitioned into entertainment, appearing in TV shows, commercials, and movies. She later became even more famous through Keeping Up with the Kardashians, alongside her then-wife Kris Jenner and their children, Kendall and Kylie.

However, behind the scenes, Jenner struggled with gender identity for decades.

Coming out as transgender

In April 2015, Caitlyn Jenner publicly came out as transgender in a widely watched 20/20 interview with Diane Sawyer. She later underwent hormone therapy and legally changed her name to Caitlyn.

While many praised her courage, the transition brought challenges, especially in her personal life. Telling her children about her journey was one of the most emotional moments, but they ultimately supported her.

Why Caitlyn Jenner’s kids still call her “dad”

Despite her transition, Jenner’s children—especially Kendall and Kylie—still refer to her as “dad.” In a 2021 YouTube conversation with Kylie, Caitlyn explained why she’s comfortable with this:

“I’ve been the dad the whole way, and I will be their father until the day they die or I die,” she said.

Jenner acknowledged that some people in the transgender community have strong opinions on pronouns, but she believes everyone should choose what feels right for them.

“Some people would say, ‘You’re the mother,’ but I’m not. I’m the dad,” she added.

Caitlyn Jenner today: Living with “Bruce”

Even after her transition, Jenner says she still feels connected to parts of her old identity. She enjoys activities that Bruce once loved, like car racing and flying planes.

“Bruce was a good person. He did a lot in his life. But I just wasn’t comfortable with him,” Caitlyn has said in interviews.

Today, Caitlyn Jenner continues to advocate for transgender rights while embracing her own unique journey. Her story highlights that identity is deeply personal—and that love and acceptance from family matter most.
