Gordon Ramsay warns fans about skin cancer after surgery
The celebrity chef revealed he had a basal cell carcinoma removed and urged people to take sun safety seriously
Gordon Ramsay has revealed he underwent surgery to remove a type of skin cancer from his face. The chef shared his story to encourage fans to protect themselves from the sun.
The 57-year-old chef posted photos on Instagram showing a bandage and stitches on his jawline, just below his ear. He explained that doctors had removed a basal cell carcinoma, the most common form of skin cancer.
“Grateful and so appreciative for the incredible team at The Skin Associates and their fast reactive work on removing this Basal Cell Carcinoma thank you!” Ramsay wrote. He added a reminder for fans: “Please don’t forget your sunscreen this weekend. I promise you it’s not a face lift! I’d need a refund.”
Cancer Research UK also commented on Ramsay’s post, praising him for raising awareness and reminding people to “seek shade, cover up, and apply sunscreen regularly and generously.”
What is basal cell carcinoma?
According to the Mayo Clinic, basal cell carcinoma often shows up as a transparent bump, sore, or skin change that doesn’t heal. It usually develops on areas exposed to the sun, such as the head and neck. While it grows slowly and is less likely to spread than other types of skin cancer, early treatment is important to prevent complications.
This is not the first time the chef has shared health news with fans. In 2024, he revealed he had been in a serious cycling accident in Connecticut that left him bruised and shaken. Speaking at the time, he stressed the importance of wearing helmets, saying, “I don’t care how short the journey is… even with a kid’s short journey, they’ve got to wear a helmet now.”
Ramsay’s message is clear: taking precautions—whether on the road or under the sun—can save lives. His experience is a reminder that regular check-ups and simple protective steps like sunscreen can make a big difference.
