Len Goodman, beloved judge of ‘Dancing with the Stars’, passes away at 78
Len Goodman, a well-known judge on popular TV shows Dancing with the Stars and Strictly Come Dancing, has passed away at the age of 78. His representative, Jackie Gill, confirmed that he passed away peacefully on a Saturday night.
Goodman’s manager revealed on Monday that he was in a hospice in Kent, surrounded by his family when he passed away due to bone cancer. Despite his illness, he maintained his sense of humor and was remembered as a “true gentleman” by those close to him.

Goodman retired as the head judge on Dancing with the Stars (DWTS) in November 2022, after an impressive 31 seasons. He expressed his gratitude for being part of the show since its inception in 2005 and shared his excitement about spending more time with his family in Britain.
As a former professional ballroom dancer and British champion, Goodman played a significant role in renewing enthusiasm for ballroom dancing in both the United States and the United Kingdom. His contributions to the art form and the entertainment industry will be remembered.

Before joining DWTS, Len Goodman was the head judge on Strictly Come Dancing for 12 seasons, starting when the show premiered on the BBC in 2004. Afterward, he became the head judge on the US version, DWTS, and continued in that role until his retirement in November 2022.
Numerous individuals associated with both dance competitions expressed their heartfelt condolences upon hearing the news of his passing. Carrie Ann Inaba, a fellow judge, paid tribute to Goodman, describing him as “a dancer, a teacher, a refined gentleman, a wonderful storyteller, a special soul, a mentor, a family man, and a treasured friend.”

“Saying goodbye at the end of last season broke my heart. But today’s news has shattered it all over again. I can’t believe that you’re gone,” she added in the caption of a video montage shared on Instagram.
Kym Johnson-Herjavec, a professional dancer on DWTS from 2006 to 2015, mourned the loss of Len Goodman, calling him a “class act.” She fondly remembered his “cheeky grin and quick wit,” and the pride of receiving a perfect score from him. She added, “Rest In Peace sweet Len.”

Tom Bergeron, the former host of DWTS, shared a simple and touching tribute to Goodman, while BBC director-general Tim Davie praised him as a “wonderful, warm entertainer” who was loved by millions. Davie mentioned that Goodman felt like a part of everyone’s family and played a crucial role in Strictly Come Dancing’s success. He acknowledged that Goodman will be deeply missed by the public, as well as his friends and family.
