Big news in search for lost titanic sub—sounds heard every half hour
Everyone around the globe is anxiously waiting for news about the Titan submersible. This underwater vehicle was on a mission to explore the Titanic wreck but went missing on Sunday.
People are especially worried because the air supply for the crew inside the submersible is reportedly expected to run out today, June 22nd.
To find the Titan, planes are flying over the ocean to look for it, and other underwater vehicles are searching beneath the water. However, the area they have to search is very big – some people think it’s about double the size of Connecticut – and this makes finding the submersible really tough. Also, there hasn’t been any communication from the Titan since it went missing shortly after it began its dive.
There might be a small ray of hope in finding the Titan submersible. One of the rescue teams has reported hearing banging sounds every 30 minutes near the place where the submersible was last seen.
According to an email from the Department of Homeland Security that Rolling Stone published, a special aircraft called P8 Poseidon, which can find things underwater from the air, was sent by RCC Halifax.
The P8 dropped special listening devices called sonobuoys into the water. These sonobuoys heard something close to where the submersible sent its last signal. The P8 aircraft also picked up banging sounds in that area. Even four hours later, after putting more sonar equipment in the water, the banging sounds were still heard.
It is important to say that we don’t know for sure if the banging sounds are coming from the Titan submersible’s crew. But there is another email from CNN that gives a little more hope. This email says that more sounds have been heard in the water, and these sounds are helping the rescue teams know where to look. The email also says that these sounds give some hope that there might be survivors.
The U.S. Coast Guard thinks that the air inside the submersible will run out at 6:08 a.m. on Thursday (which is 7:08 a.m. Eastern Time). It is also believed that it might take up to eight hours for the submersible to get back to the surface of the water. This means that time is really important and every minute counts if they are to find the submersible and save the crew.
The people who were in the Titan submersible have been named as Hamish Harding, Stockton Rush, Paul-Henry Nargeolet, Shahzada Dawood and his son Sulaiman. OceanGate, the company that was taking these people to see the Titanic wreck, said, “Our whole attention is on the crew in the submersible and their families.”
We are all thinking about and praying for the five people on the Titan. Let’s all hope for a miracle.
