Heartbreaking 911 call reveals new details about Diane Keaton’s sudden death
Hollywood mourns as reports shed light on the beloved actress’s final hours
Oscar-winning actress Diane Keaton has passed away at the age of 79. The exact cause of death remains undetermined, but newly released 911 audio reveals emotional details about the moments before she was rushed to the hospital.
According to TMZ, emergency services received a call from Keaton’s Los Angeles home in the early hours of Saturday, October 11, describing a “person down.”
“Rescue 19, person down,” the dispatcher can be heard saying in the audio recording before reading out Keaton’s address.

Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department transported her to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. A department spokesperson confirmed that first responders had answered a medical emergency at her residence.
Keaton’s family later confirmed her death to People magazine, saying she passed away “peacefully.”
“She declined very suddenly”
A close friend told People that Keaton’s health had taken an unexpected turn in recent months.
“She declined very suddenly, which was heartbreaking for everyone who loved her,” the friend said. “It was so unexpected, especially for someone with such strength and spirit.”
The source added that the actress spent her final months surrounded by close family, choosing to keep her health struggles private.
Health struggles and recent appearance
Songwriter Carole Bayer Sager, who co-wrote Keaton’s 2022 holiday single First Christmas, told People she visited the actress just weeks before her death.

“I saw her two or three weeks ago, and she was very thin,” Sager recalled. “She had lost so much weight.”
Sager said Keaton had spent time in Palm Springs after her Los Angeles home was damaged by recent wildfires. “She was down there for a while, and when she came back, I was kind of stunned by how much weight she’d lost,” she added.
Despite her frail appearance, Sager described Keaton as “a magic light” who remained upbeat and creative. “She lit up a room with her energy and was constantly taking photographs. She never stopped creating.”
“She lived exactly how she wanted to”
Another friend said Keaton was “funny right up until the end.”
“She lived exactly how she wanted to—on her own terms, surrounded by the people and things she really loved,” the friend said. “She had this way of making even ordinary moments feel special.”
Following the news of her passing, tributes poured in from Keaton’s friends and former co-stars, including Goldie Hawn, Steve Martin, and Bette Midler.

“Diane, we aren’t ready to lose you,” Hawn wrote on Instagram. “You’ve left us with a trail of fairy dust filled with light and memories beyond imagination. I’m going to miss the hell out of you.”
Midler added, “The brilliant, beautiful, extraordinary Diane Keaton has died. I cannot tell you how unbearably sad this makes me. She was hilarious, a complete original… What you saw was who she was.”
Diane Keaton rose to prominence in the 1970s with her breakout role in The Godfather films and her Oscar-winning performance in Annie Hall (1977). She later starred in beloved films such as The First Wives Club, Something’s Gotta Give, and the Book Club series.
Known for her signature style, humor, and authenticity, Keaton leaves behind a body of work that redefined what it means to be a Hollywood leading lady.
She is survived by her two children, Dexter and Duke Keaton.
