In the hours following the announcement, Donald Trump Jr. posted what appeared to be a compassionate message: “Politics aside, we wish him well.” Many were surprised by the respectful tone.
But just hours later, the tone changed completely.
Trump Jr. reposted a message on X (formerly Twitter) that questioned how First Lady Dr. Jill Biden — an educator with a doctorate — could have missed such a serious health issue. He also pushed an unfounded theory that Biden may have hidden the diagnosis from the public for political reasons.
Not only did he share the message — he pinned it to the top of his profile, making sure it was the first thing visitors would see.
Internet reacts: “A disgrace”
The response online was swift and brutal. Many people accused Trump Jr. of using a serious health condition to attack a political opponent, calling it “disgraceful” and “shameful.”
“Donald Trump Jr. just made fun of President Biden’s cancer diagnosis. This is where we’re at in American politics,” one user wrote.
“This is in really bad taste, even for you,” another added.
A third person responded with a fact-check: “There are plenty of oncologists and urologists who can give you accurate info about prostate cancer if you’d like, @DonaldJTrumpJr.”
Trump Sr. and others show compassion
The reaction from Trump Jr. stood in stark contrast to his father’s response. Former President Donald Trump offered kind words, wishing Biden a “fast and successful recovery.” Others from the MAGA movement, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, also responded with sympathy.
“I’m sorry to see this news. Cancer is truly awful. My Dad passed away in 2021 with cancer,” Greene wrote, asking people to pray for the president and his family.
But not everyone followed that path. Some figures, like former White House doctor Ronny Jackson, claimed Biden’s medical team may have missed — or hidden — signs of cancer. Others, including conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer, suggested (without any evidence) that Biden has been secretly ill for a long time.
According to Healthline, aggressive prostate cancer is a fast-moving disease that can spread quickly, especially in older adults. This makes early detection more difficult in some cases. Biden’s diagnosis is serious, but public health experts caution against jumping to conclusions or spreading misinformation.
