‘Happy Days’ actor Scott Baio has had enough with California and has decided to leave for good
Scott Baio, the actor best known for his role as Chachi Arcola on the popular TV series Happy Days, has joined a growing list of Hollywood celebrities opting to leave California.
Baio recently took to Twitter to announce his decision to part ways with the state he has called home for a significant portion of his life.
In his explanation, Baio cited the escalating issue of homelessness in Los Angeles as the primary reason for his departure. This concern has compelled the actor to seek a new place to call home, following in the footsteps of other Hollywood personalities who have chosen to leave California behind.
Scott Baio, who has spent the past 45 years in Los Angeles, recently expressed his discontent with the city and state on Twitter. He stated, “After 45 years, I’m making my way to finally ‘exit stage right’ from California.” Baio referenced a 2022 survey by the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, which reported about 69,000 individuals experiencing homelessness in L.A. County and 41,000 within the city.
His decision sparked a variety of responses on social media. Some users empathized with Baio’s reasons for moving. One user commented, “Good for you, Scott. You and your family will be much happier. Besides, if CA ever changes, you can go back,” reflecting an understanding of the actor’s choice and offering optimism for the future.
Some Twitter users extended their well-wishes and offered suggestions for his relocation. One user mentioned, “Wonderful sir. Hope you find a place where y’all can be happy and comfortable. Have a little space left in Texas if you want it. We would love to have you here.”
Others shared their own experiences, with one person saying, “Congrats. If and when my son leaves we are out of here too. Been here since 1970 it is not the same beautiful state it once was.”
However, not everyone was supportive of Baio’s decision. One user expressed frustration, saying, “Considering you’ve never done anything to help out in the situation after getting wealthy off of us, we will be glad to see you go.” Another added, “Happy Californian here, especially knowing you are leaving!” showcasing the mixed feelings surrounding Baio’s departure.
Some Twitter users opted to make light of Baio’s announcement, poking fun at his acting career. One user wrote, “With your lack of work over the last 20+ years – are you one of the homeless?” Another chimed in, “You exited from relevancy about 30 years ago, who cares?” A third user quipped, “It’ll be easy to pack up your tent and shopping cart. Cause you’ve been out of a career for 40 years too!”
The 62-year-old actor seems serious about his decision, as he has listed his Woodland Hills residence for sale. Valued at $3.85 million, the property spans 6,300 square feet and boasts five bedrooms, four and a half bathrooms, and a home theater. Baio purchased the home in 2010 for $1.85 million.
Scott Baio is the latest addition to a growing list of Hollywood celebrities who have decided to leave California in search of new horizons. Notable figures such as Matthew McConaughey, Joe Rogan, and Mark Wahlberg have all made similar moves in recent years.

In December 2020, McConaughey announced plans to return to his home state of Texas. His motivations included wanting his children to grow up with the values he cherished and to be closer to his family. Joe Rogan relocated to Texas in August 2020, citing “insane” Los Angeles traffic and the city’s high cost of living as his reasons for moving. Mark Wahlberg sold his Beverly Hills mansion for $30 million in April 2021 and moved to Ohio. The actor owns a Chevrolet dealership in the state and has family ties in the area, which likely influenced his decision.
