Heartbroken Texas woman loses husband and two young children in tragic car crash
Community rallies around grieving mom as fatal three-vehicle collision claims lives of father, daughter, and son
In a heartbreaking moment, Brooke Mustard Moorehead lost her entire family—her husband and two young children—after a tragic car crash in Texas.
What began as an ordinary weekend turned into a life-shattering tragedy for Brooke Moorehead when a three-vehicle crash in Van Alstyne, Texas, killed her husband, 41-year-old Tommy Moorehead III, and their two children—six-year-old Lynnlee and four-year-old Tommy Jr.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the deadly crash happened on Saturday when 63-year-old Rocky Patterson attempted to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone. His 2007 Dodge 3500 collided head-on with a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado carrying the Moorehead family. The Chevy burst into flames, killing all three at the scene.
Authorities say Patterson’s reckless decision to pass illegally has led to criminal charges. He is now facing three counts of manslaughter, each a second-degree felony. As of Monday, Patterson remains in the Grayson County Jail on a $3 million bond.

The crash and subsequent fire have left the local community in shock, with DPS continuing to investigate the circumstances.
The loss has left Brooke Moorehead alone and devastated. Her husband, Tommy, was remembered as a loving father and dedicated family man. A GoFundMe page, launched by family and friends, paints a heartfelt picture of the lives lost too soon.
“Tommy was a devoted husband and father… Lynnlee was full of life, joy, and curiosity. Little Tommy Jr. was always smiling and full of love,” the page reads.
Brooke, who has worked in the local restaurant community for nearly a decade, is being remembered as a pillar of kindness and strength. Now, she is facing the unimaginable challenge of moving forward without the people she loved most.

The GoFundMe campaign, created to help Brooke with funeral costs and unexpected expenses, has raised over $92,000 of its $150,000 goal at the time of writing. Organizers hope to not only ease the financial burden but also remind Brooke that she is not alone in her grief.
“She needs all of us to help her through this most painful time… No one should have to go through this alone.”
This tragedy is a painful reminder of how quickly life can change. While the Moorehead family is being mourned across the community, their memory lives on in the love they shared—and in the strength of the people rallying behind Brooke.
