Hospital patient brought back to life reveals what they saw after dying: “It was humbling”
Reddit user shares emotional near-death experience, including a visit from a loved one who had passed away.
A hospital patient who was revived after being declared dead shared their extraordinary experience online—describing a peaceful moment, seeing family, and even a conversation with a deceased grandmother.
For centuries, people have wondered what happens after death. Some believe in an afterlife or reincarnation, while others think everything simply stops. But for one hospital patient, that mystery became deeply personal when they were revived after being clinically dead for several minutes.
Posting under the name HumbleBumble77 on Reddit’s “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) forum, the user opened up about their near-death experience. They explained they were placed on life support after a medical emergency, and were considered dead for a brief time before doctors brought them back.
“I have died, was revived, and was on life support for quite some time,” they wrote. “Being on both sides of the spectrum—as a healthcare provider and a patient survivor—has really changed my perspective.”
“It didn’t hurt. I was at peace.”
When asked what the experience felt like, the user described it as “humbling” and “peaceful.”
“I felt absolutely no pain. I was comfortable even though my body was fighting hard,” they said. Even during moments of vomiting or physical stress, they didn’t feel pain. “It was a bit like an out-of-body experience,” they added.
Most astonishingly, they claimed to hear conversations happening in the hospital room—even though they were unresponsive at the time.
“I could hear my family talking in the ICU. I wanted to respond, to interact—but I just couldn’t. That was the weirdest part,” the user shared.
A visit from a guardian angel?
Perhaps the most touching part of the story came when they were taken off the ventilator. The patient said they saw their late grandmother, who passed away in 2004.
“She told me, ‘Turn around… your time here is just beginning.’ Then I felt the tubes slide out of my lungs and heard the nurses yelling my name.”
While the user acknowledged the experience could have been influenced by medication, they said it felt very real. “I like to refer to her as my genuine guardian angel,” they wrote. “Whether it was real or not, it gave me peace.”
Reactions: “Wild” and comforting, or just brain chemistry?
The story quickly gained attention from other Reddit users, many calling it “wild” and “beautiful.”
One user said, “Sure, it might have been a hallucination. But what if it wasn’t? That’s what makes these stories so powerful.”
Others shared their own experiences. One commenter recalled hallucinating in the ICU due to strong medications, noting they didn’t feel anything spiritual but were terrified of dying. “Nothing hurt, but I was scared. I remember everything, including doctors telling me I wasn’t going to die.”
These mixed reactions highlight the mystery and emotional complexity of near-death experiences. Are they visions, dreams, or something more?
Whether spiritual or scientific, these stories raise fascinating questions about life, death, and what might lie beyond. For many, they offer comfort—especially those grieving the loss of loved ones.
As for HumbleBumble77, the experience left them feeling “blessed” and changed forever. “It opened my eyes to the real possibility of seeing my loved ones who have passed on again,” they wrote.
What do you think happens after we die? Do you believe in near-death experiences, or is it just the brain’s final flicker?
