Jason Momoa shaves off beard for first time in six years in push against plastic waste
Aquaman star Jason Momoa surprises fans with a clean-shaven look while promoting a new eco-friendly water initiative in Hawaii.
Jason Momoa, 45, has shaved his beard for the first time in six years, unveiling the new look in a video that promotes his campaign to reduce single-use plastic. The move sparked a wave of reactions online, with fans stunned by the dramatic change.
In a video shared to Instagram on July 30, Momoa revealed his bare face while explaining the reason behind the transformation: a personal commitment to fighting plastic pollution. “Haven’t shaved in six years, and here we are again,” he said in the caption.
Momoa used the video to announce a partnership between his company, Mananalu, and Boomerang Water, which will launch a closed-loop water bottling system in Hawaii. The system sanitizes and refills aluminum bottles on-site, eliminating the need for single-use plastic and minimizing shipping emissions.

“This is the future,” Momoa said, urging viewers to consider the environmental impact of plastic waste. “Let’s get rid of single-use plastic. For our children and for our planet.”
Fans react to the new look
Momoa’s transformation left fans stunned. Reactions on social media were swift, with one user joking, “Babe wake up, Jason Momoa has a bald face,” while another added, “Jason Momoa looks completely different!”
In the clip, Momoa also quipped about his appearance. “Only for you, Denis,” he said, referring to Dune director Denis Villeneuve, before adding, “Goddamnit! I hate it.”
His son joins him on screen in Dune 3
The timing of the shave coincides with news about the third Dune film, set to release in December 2026. Momoa returns as Duncan Idaho and will appear alongside his 16-year-old son, Nakoa-Wolf, who plays the child of characters portrayed by Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya.
Speaking to Extra, Momoa addressed speculation about helping his son land the role: “He did it on his own. I don’t want to help him… good for him.” He added, “You want your children to be better than you, and I really, actually believe he is.”
With a new film on the horizon and a fresh environmental campaign underway, Momoa is showing a different side of himself—both literally and professionally. Whether or not the beard returns, his message is clear: the future depends on what we choose to change today.
