Kate Middleton, a lifelong tennis enthusiast, made her much-anticipated appearance at Wimbledon last weekend. Seated in the Royal Box, she was joined by Prince George and Princess Charlotte to watch the women’s and men’s finals, receiving a warm standing ovation from the crowd.

Though Prince Louis didn’t attend, the Princess of Wales made sure her youngest child wasn’t forgotten.

“We brought one for their brother as well”

After the men’s final, the royal family met champion Jannik Sinner, who graciously signed tennis balls for George and Charlotte. As he did, Kate warmly thanked the athlete and said, “We brought one for their brother as well.” Prince William added with a smile, “Louis would be very upset otherwise.”

At just seven years old, Louis hasn’t yet joined his siblings at the famed tournament. Both George and Charlotte made their Wimbledon debuts at a slightly older age.

Later that week, while visiting Windsor Castle, Kate humorously compared Louis to the young King Louis XIV after viewing a portrait of the French monarch. “I should know,” she joked.

Support and concern from the public

Kate’s appearance at Wimbledon sparked a flurry of support—and concern—online. While many praised her strength and grace, others worried about her health.

“She looks beautiful,” one fan wrote. Another added, “It’s lovely to see her back after her cancer battle.” But others expressed concern, commenting on her visible weight loss and frailty.

The Princess has remained open about her health since her diagnosis last year. She recently visited cancer patients at Colchester Hospital in Essex, sharing her experience with recovery and the emotional toll that can follow treatment.

“It’s not smooth, like you expect it to be”

During the hospital visit, Kate described the post-treatment phase as unexpectedly difficult. “You put on a brave face through treatment,” she said. “Then it’s like, ‘I can crack on, get back to normal,’ but actually, the phase afterwards is really, really difficult.”

She called the experience “life-changing” and spoke of the importance of support. “You have to find your new normal and that takes time…and it’s a rollercoaster,” she said.

While Prince Louis wasn’t present at Wimbledon, the effort to include him revealed something personal: the royal family’s everyday consideration for one another, even amid public scrutiny and personal challenges. It was a small moment that said a lot.
