Kelly Clarkson’s ex-husband Brandon Blackstock made millions from the singer – now ordered to give it all back
Kelly Clarkson, a well-known singer, has recently won a significant legal battle against her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock. The couple, who married in 2013 and divorced in 2021, had been involved in a financial dispute following their separation.
During their marriage, Blackstock managed Clarkson’s career, charging her commission fees. However, it was discovered that he had overcharged her, leading to a legal case. Recently, a California labor commissioner ruled in Clarkson’s favor, stating that Blackstock must repay the overcharged amount, which totals approximately $2.64 million.
The legal issue centered around Blackstock’s role in booking performances and deals for Clarkson, including her appearances on “The Voice,” collaborations with Norwegian Cruise Lines, Wayfair, and hosting the Billboard Music Awards. The commissioner highlighted that only talent agents, not managers, are permitted to secure such employment opportunities, a rule Blackstock had violated.
As a result, Blackstock is required to pay back specific amounts for each of these engagements. These include over $1.98 million for Clarkson’s role on “The Voice,” over $208,000 for the Norwegian Cruise Line collaboration, $450,000 for the Wayfair partnership, and a small amount for hosting the Billboard Music Awards.
Clarkson also sought repayment for earnings related to “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” but the ruling allowed Blackstock to keep that money.
The couple’s divorce, finalized in March 2022, also involved a custody battle over their two children, River Rose and Remington “Remy” Alexander, and disputes over their Montana ranch. Clarkson was granted primary custody and retained the ranch.
After the divorce, Clarkson moved to New York City, where she found solace and began to rebuild her life. She released an album, “Chemistry,” inspired by her personal experiences, and expressed contentment with her single status, focusing on her children, pets, and career.
The singer’s victory in this legal matter marks a positive turn after several challenging years. Fans of Kelly Clarkson can take heart in this favorable outcome as she continues to navigate her life and career with resilience and strength.
