Man says he was ‘brain dead for 90 minutes,’ met Jesus, and returned with a message
Near-death survivor shares powerful story of faith, fear, and an unforgettable encounter.
A man who says he was “dead for three days” is opening up about what he believes happened on the other side — including meeting Jesus, receiving a message, and being sent back to life with a “new brain.”
Robert Marshall says everything changed for him in May 2024. What began as a simple visit to an outpatient emergency room — to check a large swollen mass on his neck — turned into a terrifying medical crisis.
“I was having trouble breathing,” Robert told the Next Level Soul Podcast, where he recently appeared as a guest. Doctors quickly ran tests, including an MRI and blood work. But things rapidly got worse.
According to his book 44 Hours in Heaven, Robert went into code blue three times. He later learned he had been drowning in his own blood, suffering from acute hypoxic respiratory failure and cardiac arrest.
“I actually died”
While some people might call it a near-death experience, Robert says it was much more serious.
“I wasn’t near death — I actually died,” he said. “I was dead for three days.”
During that time, he believes he went to heaven.
A peaceful scene he can’t forget
Robert described entering a place filled with giant oak trees, bright flowers, and colors more vibrant than anything on Earth. He said the overwhelming feeling was one of peace and love unlike anything he had experienced before.
And that’s where he says he met Jesus.
Even in awe of what he saw, Robert says something powerful pulled him back — the pain of his wife.
He explained that he could “feel every bit” of her fear and heartbreak. Because of that, he asked Jesus if he could return to comfort her.
That request, he says, is when Jesus delivered a message he would never forget.
“When you first came before me, you asked if you could go back,” Robert recalled Jesus telling him. He even joked, “Oh, he did hear me!” prompting the host Alex Ferrari to laugh, “I don’t think Jesus is hard of hearing.”
Then the message got serious.
“He said, ‘Your brain has been destroyed, obviously.’”
Robert claims Jesus continued:
“I could and would send you back with some caveats. I’ll send you back with a miracle that nobody could ever deny — not the doctors, not the nurses, not scientists. Nobody could ever deny that I am God and I did this… that I’m alive, I’m real, and heaven is real.”
According to Robert, Jesus then told him he would give him a new brain and restore his entire memory before sending him back to life. Moments later, doctors were able to revive him.
Stories like Robert’s often spark strong reactions — from deep belief to intense skepticism. Some people see them as powerful evidence of an afterlife, while others argue they can be explained by brain activity during trauma.
But no matter where someone stands, Robert’s message is resonating with thousands who have watched his podcast interview or read his book.
Robert Marshall’s experience raises big questions about life, death, and what — if anything — comes after. His story may inspire, comfort, or challenge people in different ways, but it certainly leaves a lasting impression.
