Meghan Markle called out over Archie and Lilibet photos—privacy stance questioned

Critics accuse Meghan Markle of contradicting her past stance on family privacy after sharing new photos of her children online.

Meghan Markle is under renewed scrutiny after sharing a Father’s Day video featuring Prince Harry and their children, Archie and Lilibet. Royal experts say the move conflicts with the couple’s long-standing push for privacy.

When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from royal duties in 2020, they cited a desire for a quieter, more private life—especially for their children. But five years later, their approach to publicity is drawing fresh criticism.

Meghan recently posted a video of Harry with Archie, 6, and Lilibet, 4, on Instagram to mark Father’s Day. The warm family moment was quickly picked up across media platforms. While many fans welcomed the rare look into their lives, others questioned the sudden change.

Are Harry and Meghan contradicting themselves?

For years, the Sussexes were cautious about showing their children publicly. Their appearances in the 2022 Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan were among the only glimpses viewers had of Archie and Lilibet.

That’s part of why royal commentator Ingrid Seward says Meghan’s latest post feels inconsistent.

“They begged for privacy and now suddenly Meghan is flooding the marketplace with photographs of their children,” Seward told The Sun. “Everything they do online is aimed at them being able to make more money—otherwise why on earth would they do it?”

Concern for online safety adds to the backlash

The criticism is amplified by Harry and Meghan’s own advocacy for children’s safety online. Through their Archewell Foundation, they’ve spoken about the dangers of digital spaces—especially for young kids.

“All you want to do as parents is protect them,” Meghan said during a recent event. Harry added that today’s technology can quickly pull children into harmful content, “and before you know it, within 24 hours, they could be taking their life.”

That contrast—between warning about digital risks and sharing personal content—struck a nerve.

It’s unclear how Prince Harry feels about the recent posts. Seward speculates he may be uncomfortable with the attention, noting, “Harry isn’t really a great self-promoter. Unlike his wife, who is.”

Still, she added, “I can’t imagine that Meghan would have done it without his knowledge.”

Whether the Sussexes will continue to share more of their private life remains to be seen. But as public figures, every move they make continues to prompt discussion—about privacy, parenting, and the line between personal values and public image.

Public figures are often caught between protecting their families and managing public expectations. Do Harry and Meghan face unfair scrutiny, or are they setting their own rules as they go?
