Former First Lady Melania Trump has offered a rare personal insight into her husband Donald Trump’s nightly routine — and it seems rest is not high on his list of priorities.

Speaking on Fox News’ The Five in 2024 while promoting her memoir Melania: A Memoir, she confirmed that the former president “doesn’t sleep much,” clarifying with a smile, “He does, of course,” before adding no further details about his hours of rest.

Trump has long claimed that he functions on little sleep, saying during his time in the White House that he averaged just four to five hours per night. “I don’t need much sleep,” he said in a 2016 interview with The Washington Post, noting that he often used late-night hours to make calls or draft notes.

Melania Trump’s Candid Moment

During the Fox News segment, host Greg Gutfeld playfully asked Melania whether her husband “wears pajamas.” She quickly replied “no,” and when pressed for further details, made a zipped-lip gesture — signaling that was one question she wouldn’t answer.

Though lighthearted, the exchange gave viewers a glimpse into the Trumps’ private life, echoing what many staffers and reporters have observed about the former president’s near-constant activity.

CNN’s Chief White House Correspondent Kaitlan Collins also recently discussed Trump’s unusual sleep patterns during an appearance on the Trading Secrets podcast. According to Collins, several sources who have traveled with Trump aboard Air Force One described his relentless energy on international flights.

“I had this source who said you never want to be on Air Force One on a trip,” Collins said, recalling conversations with Trump’s staff. “You would think it’s exciting, but he doesn’t sleep. You’re going to Asia, it’s overnight, and that’s the only time you can rest—but Trump is just always up and talking.”

Collins added that Trump sometimes asks aides to wake sleeping staff members because he wants to discuss business or campaign strategy. “He’ll have them go wake staff up if they’re asleep because he wants to talk to them,” she said, describing what insiders call his “always on” work style.

The former president’s habit of working late into the night and starting early in the morning has been documented throughout his career. Aides from his time in the White House told Politico in 2018 that Trump was often awake before dawn, watching cable news and making phone calls by 5:30 a.m.

Medical experts generally recommend adults sleep between seven and nine hours a night, but Trump has often dismissed concerns about his limited rest, saying his short nights leave him “more productive.”

A Glimpse Into Private Life

Melania Trump’s restrained remarks, paired with firsthand accounts from those who have worked with her husband, paint a picture of a man who treats every hour as usable time. Her memoir, published in 2024, explores her years in the public eye and includes subtle reflections on the intensity of life alongside one of the most scrutinized figures in modern politics.

While the former First Lady avoided revealing too much, her comments — and those of former aides — reinforce what many have long noted about Donald Trump: his tendency toward late nights, long hours, and an unrelenting pace that few around him can match.
