According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP), Justin Wood died at the scene of the crash on the afternoon of Saturday, September 27. The accident occurred near the intersection of State Highway 59 and East-West 1290 Road, about 65 miles east of Oklahoma City.

Troopers said Wood’s vehicle overturned after being struck from behind. His wife, 37-year-old Tamara Wood, was driving the car that collided with his. She reportedly remained at the scene and spoke with investigators.

Lt. Mark Southall of the OHP told KOCO 5 News that the investigation is ongoing. “We’re in the early stages of the investigation,” he said. “It could be months before we come up with a finalized answer before we submit our case to the district attorney’s office.”

Southall added that authorities are examining “the dynamics of the collision” to determine whether other factors may have played a role.

Family and community mourn Justin Wood

Justin Wood, described by loved ones as a devoted father and friend, leaves behind two children. His son Wyatt, 13, said his father had attended his basketball game just hours before the crash.

“He’s the best dad that I could ever ask for,” Wyatt told KOCO 5. “He’s the reason I am the way I am, and the reason I play sports and love basketball.”

His daughter Abbey also shared a heartfelt tribute. “When he walked in the room, everyone just automatically loved him,” she said. “He could talk and make everyone laugh. He was just a great dad and a great person in general.”

Online reaction and unanswered questions

Four days before the fatal crash, Tamara Wood posted “I love you Justin” on Facebook. Following the news of his death, that post drew dozens of emotional and angry comments — including one from Justin’s sister, Cassidy Fent, who said Tamara had not been arrested but remained under investigation.

“This was made four days ago! She’s not in jail, she’s under investigation,” Cassidy wrote. “They let her go until the investigation on the ‘accident’ is complete.”

“Rest in peace, Justin,” his sister wrote in a public tribute.
