Pam Bondi Diagnosed with thyroid cancer weeks after leaving DOJ, report says

Just weeks after leaving one of the most visible jobs in Washington, former U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer, according to multiple reports.

The diagnosis came shortly after Bondi’s departure from the Department of Justice in April, where she served as Attorney General during President Donald Trump’s second administration. Reports indicate that she has already undergone treatment and is recovering.

News of Bondi’s health battle surfaced as another development emerged from the White House.

Axios reported that Trump has appointed Bondi to the Presidential Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, known as PCAST, where she is expected to work on issues involving artificial intelligence policy.

Bondi’s exit from the Justice Department drew significant attention in April. Trump publicly described the move as a transition to a new role outside government, while several media reports characterized her departure as a dismissal. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche was subsequently named acting Attorney General.

Supporters quickly rallied around Bondi after news of her diagnosis became public. Former White House official Katie Miller wrote on social media that Bondi had been battling cancer in recent weeks and praised her resilience during treatment. Those comments were widely shared across conservative political circles.

Bondi, 60, has reportedly undergone surgery and continues to receive treatment. According to reporting by The Times.

Thyroid cancer is generally considered one of the most treatable forms of cancer. Medical experts say outcomes are often favorable when the disease is detected and treated early. Reports citing health data place the five year survival rate above 98 percent for the most common forms of the disease.

Bondi is not the first member of Trump’s inner circle to face the illness. Jared Kushner, Trump’s son in law and former White House adviser, revealed in his memoir that he underwent surgery for thyroid cancer during Trump’s first term and later required a second procedure.

For now, Bondi appears focused on recovery while preparing for her next role in the administration. Her appointment to the White House advisory council signals that, despite her departure from the Justice Department, she is expected to remain involved in national policy discussions.
