Queen Camilla’s sister opens up about her bond with King Charles

In a rare interview, Annabel Elliot describes Queen Camilla as the King's emotional anchor and reflects on her sister’s unlikely journey into royal life.

Camilla’s once-controversial path to queenship has found a new voice—her sister Annabel, who reveals just how deeply rooted her loyalty to King Charles runs.

The marriage of King Charles and Queen Camilla has faced decades of scrutiny. From the early days of their affair to the public’s slow acceptance of Camilla, the royal couple has endured. Now, Camilla’s sister Annabel Elliot is offering personal insight into their relationship, describing Camilla as a steady and loyal force in the King’s life.

“She is his rock, and I can’t actually emphasize that enough,” Annabel said in the BBC documentary Charles III: The Coronation Year. “They are their yin and yang really, they really are polar opposites, but it works brilliantly.”

Camilla’s quiet early life with her sister

Long before royal titles and national ceremonies, Camilla and Annabel were just two sisters growing up in Sussex. They attended the same schools, rode in the same pony clubs, and even married in the same year. “We were inseparable,” Annabel has said in past interviews.

As Camilla’s public profile grew over the years, Annabel remained behind the scenes—until now.

Camilla’s entrance into royal life wasn’t smooth. After the release of the intimate “Tampongate” phone call in 1989, public opinion turned harshly against her. Nicknamed “the most hated woman in Britain,” Camilla reportedly spent years avoiding public outings and relying on friends to run errands for her.

Despite this, she remained close to Charles and eventually married him in 2005. Over time, she began taking on more royal duties and, according to insiders, earned a level of public respect through her low-profile dedication.

“She has shown us that she isn’t going anywhere,” said PR expert Luana Ribeira. “That ‘keep calm and carry on’ spirit is a crucial part of her redemption arc.”

The sister who never left her side

Throughout it all, Annabel was one of Camilla’s most constant sources of support. An interior designer by trade, Annabel has also worked professionally with King Charles and stood beside her sister during some of her biggest moments—including the coronation.

In fact, Annabel played a key role during the coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey as one of Camilla’s two official Ladies in Attendance. Watching her sister ride in the golden state coach, she recalled a surreal, emotional experience.

“I thought back to being two years old and watching the Queen’s Coronation on a tiny black-and-white TV. And there goes this golden coach with my sister in it. It was quite a moment.”

Annabel’s recent comments mark a rare public look into the private strength behind one of the monarchy’s most talked-about relationships. Her reflections don’t just illuminate the character of Queen Camilla—they also underscore the deep, unbreakable bond between two sisters who have walked through life together, from Sussex fields to royal palaces.

Queen Camilla’s journey has been anything but conventional. But with her sister by her side and King Charles by her heart, she continues to carve out her place in the modern royal family.
