Heart-touching moment—father holds daughter’s hands who was lying motionless under the rubble in Turkey

A sad photo from a city in Turkey that was hit by two big earthquakes shows a father holding the hand of his daughter who died in the rubble.

The picture shows just how many families feel after losing someone in the earthquake on Monday. It is feared that up to 20,000 people may have died in Turkey and Syria, as per Independent.co.uk.

The photo was taken in Kahramanmaras and shows a father, Mesut Hancer, holding the hand of his daughter, Irmak, who was 15 years old. Irmak’s fingers are seen through the broken pieces of concrete and bricks that used to be the apartment building where they lived.

In the photo, Irmak is still lying on her bed with a pink sheet partially off, revealing the mattress. Surrounding her is a mess, including pieces of a sofa cushion and broken bits of heavy brick walls. Her dad is sitting on the ruins of their former home, staring blankly into space.

The earthquake happened on February 6 in the early morning. Another earthquake happened about 9 hours later and there have been more than 200 aftershocks since then. The earthquake took place near a town called Ekinözü in the Kahramanmaraş province. The area around Kahramanmaras and Gaziantep was badly damaged and now whole streets are destroyed with snow falling.

Many people have been affected by the earthquake, about 13.5 million people in total. The area affected is very large, from Adana in the west to Diyarbakir in the east, and from Malatya in the north to Hatay in the south, which is about 450km wide and 300km long.

In another photo, a baby in Syria was saved from the rubble of a building after the earthquake. The baby was still connected to her dead mother through the umbilical cord. The mother, unfortunately, passed away, but the baby was safely rescued.

We feel sad about the events taking place in Turkey and Syria. Our hearts go out to all the families who have lost their homes and loved ones. We hope that God brings them comfort and peace.
