Barron Trump branded “zoo animal” by former student president

Ex-student leader sparks controversy with comments about Donald Trump’s son and life in the spotlight.

Barron Trump has begun a new chapter of his life at New York University’s Stern Business School, but despite his low profile, he remains the center of attention. A recent controversy over a fellow student’s comments about him has only intensified interest in his college experience and future political potential.

After graduating from Oxbridge Academy in Florida, Barron Trump chose to pursue higher education in the city where he was born and raised. While he considered following in his father’s footsteps by attending the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, he ultimately decided on NYU’s Stern Business School—one of the most prestigious business programs in the country.

His father, Donald Trump, spoke about the decision in an interview with Daily Mail, calling Stern a “very high-quality place” and praising Barron’s intelligence.

“He’s a very high-aptitude child, but he’s no longer a child,” Trump said. “He’s just passed into something beyond childhood, he’s doing great.”

Despite his famous last name, Barron has largely kept a low profile on campus. His daily routine reportedly consists of attending classes and returning home, with Secret Service agents accompanying him everywhere.

Students react to Barron Trump on campus

While Barron himself has remained quiet, fellow students at NYU have been quick to share their thoughts on him. In interviews with Daily Mail, some students speculated about how he might adjust to NYU’s culture.

“He’s going to NYU, so if he is at all interested in girls, he’s going to become kind of liberal, I’ll tell you that,” one student joked.

Another student remarked, “My mom is going to want me to marry him,” while a third expressed sympathy for the media scrutiny he faces, saying, “I feel really bad for him—he did not choose this life.”

According to People Magazine, Barron is already popular on campus, especially among female students. A source described him as a “ladies’ man,” noting that even students who don’t typically support his father find him attractive.

College Republican leader resigns after calling Barron an “oddity”

In mid-February, Vanity Fair published an article quoting Kaya Walker, president of NYU’s College Republican club, who described Barron as “an oddity on campus.” The remark quickly went viral, sparking backlash from conservative circles.

Walker later resigned from her position after being advised to step down by the College Republicans of America. In an open letter, she defended herself, saying her words were taken out of context.

“I just feel bad that he’s having this hard college experience, and I understand that he wants to be left alone,” she told The New York Post.

She also claimed Barron is “kind of watched like a zoo animal” due to public fascination with him.

Could Barron Trump become a future conservative leader?

Despite Barron’s preference to stay out of the spotlight, some Republicans believe he has a bright political future.

Following the controversy, the College Republicans of America extended an invitation for Barron to join their NYU branch. Will Donahue, the organization’s president, called Barron “the future of the conservative movement.”

“Strong leadership is built on resilience, courage, and the humility to rise above petty hostility—qualities that Barron has already demonstrated,” Donahue said.

Donald Trump has also credited his son with helping him connect with Gen Z voters during his presidential campaign. Speaking at Capital One Arena on Inauguration Day, Trump said Barron encouraged him to engage with influencers and podcasters to reach younger audiences.

Melania Trump echoed this sentiment in a December interview with Fox News, calling Barron “very vocal” in giving his father political advice.

“He knows his generation,” she said. “They’re all on the tablets, they’re on the phones, and all of these podcasts and streamers.”

For now, Barron remains focused on his studies, but speculation about his future is growing. While he has not publicly expressed interest in politics, his family’s deep ties to the Republican Party—and his apparent influence during his father’s campaign—have led many to wonder if he might follow in Donald Trump’s footsteps.
