Bindi Irwin opens up about health worries for daughter Grace

The wildlife star shares her concerns as her young daughter faces potential health challenges.

After silently enduring years of pain, Bindi Irwin is shedding light on her battle with endometriosis. Her journey, marked by resilience and hope, is a call for awareness — not just for herself but for her daughter’s future.

Bindi Irwin, daughter of the late Steve Irwin, has long been a beloved figure in wildlife conservation. With her radiant smile and dedication to her family’s legacy, she has inspired millions. Yet behind her public image was a private battle. For over a decade, Bindi endured debilitating pain, exhaustion, and nausea, symptoms she worked tirelessly to hide.

“I lived for more than 10 years trying desperately to hide my symptoms,” Bindi shared in an interview with 9Honey.

Her struggle began with her first period. Over the years, her symptoms worsened, leading her to seek answers through numerous medical tests, including MRIs, ultrasounds, and CT scans. Despite her efforts, doctors dismissed her pain, even suggesting it was psychological. This lack of answers caused Bindi to doubt herself, further isolating her.

The turning point came with a diagnosis: endometriosis, a chronic condition where tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus, often causing severe pain and complications.

A painful discovery and a brave revelation

In 2023, Bindi underwent surgery to address her condition. Surgeons found 37 lesions and a chocolate cyst — a severe case illustrating the consequences of delayed diagnosis. Sharing her experience on Instagram was nerve-wracking but necessary.

“Sharing my story felt so important to me that it outweighed my worry,” Bindi revealed.

The support of her husband, Chandler Powell, and her mother, Terri Irwin, was instrumental during her darkest times. Chandler praised her strength, calling her “the toughest person I know.”

Motherhood amid uncertainty

Bindi’s diagnosis has brought clarity to her past struggles, including complications during her pregnancy with her daughter, Grace Warrior. Severe pain often led her to fear miscarriage. Despite the challenges, Bindi gave birth to Grace in 2021, a testament to her determination.

However, questions about having more children weigh heavily on her. Endometriosis can lead to infertility, and the societal pressure to expand her family adds emotional strain.

“I get asked if I’m having more kids every single day,” Bindi said. “While most people mean no harm, it can be a really hurtful question.”

Bindi’s decision to share her story is not only therapeutic but also a rallying cry for others. Endometriosis remains poorly understood and often misdiagnosed. By speaking out, she hopes to shorten the diagnostic journey for others and raise awareness about the condition’s impact.

Her concerns extend to her daughter, Grace, as endometriosis can run in families. Experts like Dr. Holdsworth-Carson emphasize that both genetic and environmental factors contribute to the condition.

“There’s a very big possibility that Grace will have endometriosis, which weighs on me,” Bindi admitted.

Bindi Irwin’s story highlights the urgent need for better education, faster diagnoses, and improved treatments for endometriosis. Her bravery in sharing her experience has already sparked conversations and shattered stigmas surrounding the condition.

As Bindi continues her journey, her advocacy is paving the way for a brighter future, not just for her daughter but for countless women who deserve to be heard and healed.
